This course is a bridge course from intermediate to advanced Japanese language. It continues development of proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive and presentational modes of communication in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students develop communication strategies and cultural knowledge to prepare for advanced courses.
This course really strengthen by basic understanding of Japanese at a speed I was comfortable with. We also learned a great deal about social issues currently going on in Japan.
The assignments I found the most helpful were those that required work between students, such as discussion, as it helped me better understand the material and receive outside input on it.
If I had to pick a moment of inspiration, it would have to be the times we spent reviewing kanji. Often she would explain it in a way I hadn't thought of before, and it really helped remember them in the long run.
To this day though, I still want to improve my conversational skills, so that I can hold a competent conversation in Japanese with less time spent trying to think of what to say.
I felt like I interacted more with the study abroad program and the international students during this class, whether it was involving them on a video assignment or just discussing the class with them. It helped form a connection.
I hope to continue to improve my skills so that not only will I have an easier time speaking with Japanese, but also creating a better dialogue with those I meet.
