This course introduces students to the majors in Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish or World Language and Cultures. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs. Students identify and work with a major advisor to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, including graduate education and teaching credential preparation.
While this course does not directly relate to an MLO, it is a required course for this major, and supplies varied supportive information for graduation and beyond. Something I really got out of this course was ideas on what to do beyond university. This course helps us prepare for capstone, and gives us the tools to be successful in our field.
For example, writing our resumes and statements of purpose are helpful not only for the future, but the statement of purpose especially helped me to define my goals in majoring in Japanese.
Something that really struck me was the possibilities after college. We went through and listed as many options as we could think of, whether that be graduate school or the multitude of career options we brainstormed.
From this course, and some other experiences around this course, I have realized that the skill I need to work on is communication. Both how I communicate my intentions, but also the frequency of my communication. I am severely lacking in this department, and in order to make life easier on those around me and not cause misunderstandings, I commit myself to improving my capabilities.
This course connects all courses in my major together, by giving an outlet for them to be expressed and by giving us a goal as to where they are going.
This course will be great stepping stones to graduation and beyond, giving us the tools we need to succeed.
