Your study abroad experience is potentially a rich opportunity for you to enhance your language skills and deepen your understanding of other cultures, people and their practices. This course provides the resources to help you prepare to maximize your study abroad experiences.
This class does not directly apply to any MLOs, but it was a very handy class in preparing for studying abroad (which is MLO 5). Throughout this course we focused heavily on the various factors we needed to be aware of when living and studying abroad for a longer period of time. For example, we learned about culture-shock and reverse culture-shock, as well as differences in living styles, transportation and culture. A large portion of the class was devoted to figuring out and applying to the universities we would be studying at. One assignment we had was to practice LESCANT photo submission, which you can see examples of on my study abroad page.
I hope to continue to learn how to bridge other cultures with my own so that I am able to travel and enjoy a multitude of countries and cultures. From here I intend to travel more, learn more, and overall broaden my experiences so that I can make the best of the world around me. I hope to have a career that lets me work in and with foreign cultures, particularly Japan.
