This course aims to develop basic understanding of structural features of Japanese language. Students will be introduced to basic phonetic, phonological, morphological, syntactic, and discourse levels of Japanese. Taught in Japanese.
Linguistics has always been something I found interesting, so this class proved to be both very interesting and informative. Throughout the class we learned not only a variety of grammar and vocabulary, but also many elements as to why and how the different parts of Japanese worked. For example, intonation and inflection, which plays a large part in fluency. Thus I found this course to be very helpful in improving my Japanese abilities.
This course also helped strengthen my basic understanding of concepts I had learned in previous classes, and improve upon my building blocks. By improving my understanding of how the language worked, it improved my overall abilities to draw from what I had already learned. From here, I hope to keep improving that understanding, and perhaps look further into linguistics. Sociolinguistics in particular was something I would consider doing further learning in.
